Forum:Add interwiki guide and warning template

User:Wilf233/Interlanguage Links maintenance method and User:Wilf233/Template/Uw-interwiki are almost done, and I propose to move them to Help:Interlanguage links and Template:Uw-interwiki. Similar proposal is ongoing on Chinese Wiki, too, and I wish this guide and template could be translated to more languages.

Seeing that I'm not a native English speaker, some expressions may not be accurate. Therefore, if there's any inaccurate descriptions, just modify it. --👁 Image

 Question Who is the target audience of this help page? It seems to be written from the perspective of a different language wiki. Step 1 "Click "English" on the side bar to visit English wiki." does not make sense for the English wiki. Why does this need to be on the English wiki? -- jacobsjo (talk) 14:35, 30 May 2024 (UTC)

I've made some changes to the article to perfect the logic. Although the target audiences are mostly non-English editors, since most interwiki maintainers are from other languages, it is still very valuable because I assume that most maintainers can speak English. Besides, this article is a useful source for translation to other languages. 👁 Image

 Oppose both. The interlanguage stuff should go to style guide instead and the warning is just completely useless. You use user warning for vandalism, not for "common mistakes". Like nobody adds user warnings for messing up galleries in VE, or for bad formatting. TreeIsLife (talk) 08:39, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

Well, I don't think that uw template is for vandalism only. Instead, it's an efficient way to tell the user the exact mistake it has made. What if a user keeps making mistakes on interwikis? I think it is really annoying for patrollers. Therefore, I think it necessary. 👁 Image

 Oppose, and the draft help page doesn't seem very helpful especially in its current state and overcomplicates things. If your target audience is people new to adding interwikis this is just confusing.  Nixinova   T   C   11:02, 31 May 2024 (UTC)

The target audience of this help page is not only new editors, but also every interwiki maintainer. I remember that a UK admin kept making mistakes on Chinese Wiki, which is quite annoying for patrollers. Besides, there are a lot of users with hundreds of edits still making mistakes in interwiki. I'm also confused why so many users keep making mistakes in such a simple stuff. 👁 Image

The interwiki guide and the user warning template have already been implemented on Chinese Wiki. I hope that more interwiki maintainer can get involved in this topic.--👁 Image
