Despite sizable support, there is enough opposition here that the discussion has been left without a conclusion. There has been small discussion of using a Minecraft-style star instead of a heart, but it has not gone anywhere. Further discussion or a second proposal should occur in a new Forum post. -

This is a proposal to change the "watch" icon seen on the top tabs from the default MediaWiki star to a Minecraft-themed heart. You can see this heart icon in action on our dev wiki.
There are two main reasons for this proposal:
- The star watch icon is incredibly low-contrast in light mode, the default mode, meaning it is hard to see.
- The star watch icon is one of the few parts of the skin that was left entirely unchanged by our own skin design, making it feel out of place and look strange in my opinion.

Extremely Strong Support - It looks amazing, it's related to the game, and it adds a nice touch to the wiki. -- ThatOneWolf Time for a chat?See my edits? 22:18, 24 November 2023 (UTC)

Support - The heart is more minecrafty, which I like. I'm on the fence about the hover style though, should the hover sprite maybe be the half-filled heart? Because I don't like the sprite border changing colour when you hover over the tabbutton. - Jack McKalling (talk) 08:59, 25 November 2023 (UTC)

Generally support changing to a more Minecraft-themed icon. However, the heart sprite on the dev wiki appears to me to have extra pixels near the bottom which makes it look strange, maybe because I have the site zoomed in at 110%? I'm also not a huge fan of the current hover style with the gray borders. βSonicwave talk 19:39, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Oppose - Personally I don't like the idea of using in game assets (or the like) on the wiki for reasons unrelated to thier original purpose. I would rather this just be text and tucked under the "More" tab. - BrianGLHF (talk) 21:47, 8 December 2023 (UTC)
- It should only go into the More tab if it doesn't fit next to it. It's a major function that needs a single click if possible. I do not recommend hiding it. - Jack McKalling (talk) 22:33, 8 December 2023 (UTC)

Comment that's fair. i'm striking that from my comment.- BrianGLHF (talk) 16:46, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- It is a custom made heart if I'm not mistaken, it is very similar but uniquely made for the wiki just like the background textures. - Harristic / Talk π DungeonsEntitySprite penguin-onesie.png: Sprite image for penguin-onesie in Minecraft

Comment The heart is so similar that itβs being confused with in game sprites. I prefer text here. (BrianGLHF (talk) 16:06, 10 December 2023 (UTC))

Comment Star shapes that represent βwatchβ are used in multiple places in multiple images on the wiki and not just this these specific images used on the main theme. Theyβre in the mobile UI in multiple places including a link to a users watch list in the fly out side menu and also a menu on top of every mobile page (all different images). I donβt feel itβs good to have multiple shaped icons representing one thing. This mismatch gets more complicated adding in that similar looking hearts are used in the game and they donβt mean βwatch". What we will end up with heart = health, heart = watch, star = watch. I feel these are important considerations to be made. -BrianGLHF (talk) 16:46, 11 December 2023 (UTC)
- @BrianGLHF: The watch heart would only be placed where the star currently is, if I'm understanding this correctly. The health hearts would be placed in actual articles to represent health, like they are now. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't see any misunderstandings from other users, were we to implement this change. -- ThatOneWolf Time for a chat?See my edits? 21:42, 12 December 2023 (UTC)

No support, it should be replaced with text - I didn't even know that was the "add to watchlist" button until now.--

Oppose The heart icon would confuse me and other users to the button's actual purpose and is close enough to the games default texture that it looks the same unless they are side-by-side.
