If there is a comment saying that it take time to turn wood into charcoal then it seems fair to add some thing saying you can smelt things faster/in-parallel with more then one furnace. Its a valid tip and while it could of been worded better it should not of been remoeved. --Tnarg 18:11, 3 February 2011 (UTC)

Yes it is time-consuming, but time-saving should be left up to the player. You could smelt a stack of something in 1 furnace, or you could smelt it 8 times faster in 8 furnaces. It doesn't need to be pointed out on item pages. --JonTheMon 18:26, 3 February 2011 (UTC)
Charcoal is the only item that desives its own furnace, for time efficient smelting you sould have one charcoal furnace for every 7 general purpose furnaces.--Tnarg 15:36, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

The article contradicts itself on the subject of whether or not you can use charcoal to smelt more charcoal. "The only thing Coal can do which Charcoal can't is to make more Charcoal." "Moreover, if you begin with a single coal or charcoal, then you can smelt 8 wood blocks and make 8 charcoal,"--Jackdinn 13:53, 22 February 2011 (UTC)

(Item)?

There is no need to disambiguate this article from anything else named "Charcoal" (specifically because nothing else is named "Charcoal"), so why is this article named with the "(Item)" disambiguator (and would there be any objections to renaming the page to remove the disambiguator)? ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 19:36, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

I don't know, but my guess is so that all coal/charcoal items look the same (with a modifier in the title). --JonTheMon 19:42, 20 June 2011 (UTC)
I agree. We don't need the modifier. Except for the case of disambiguation, and unless the modifier shows up in the in-game tool-tip, it doesn't need to be included in the article title. It seems like someone felt the need to go around and add a modifier to damn near every article on the Wiki. It's totally unnecessary. --Nick2253 21:43, 21 July 2011 (UTC)

Merging with [[Coal (Item)]]

In my view, Charcoal should not be merged with Coal. For all that it behaves identically with coal once produced, it has its own process for production. It does not stack with Coal and is a distinct item from the viewpoint of the player. -- pchelp 23:37, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

The only reason Coal and Charcoal are distinct items from the viewpoint of the player is because the game maintains a strict (and entirely artificial) separation between them, even though, once they're in the inventory, there is no functional difference between them. I really don't see why this should be any different from Wool, Doors, Stairs, Slabs, Trees, Saplings, etc. (the variants of all of those are uniquely named and have their own means of being crafted/grown) ダイノガイ千?!? · ☎ Dinoguy1000 23:55, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Agree. This article is a mess, we essentially have the flow of two separate articles crammed into one. And now that there is a snapshot where coal can be crafted into blocks and charcoal can't, I think the separate pages are once again needed to make a clear distinction. —Fenhl 23:19, 2 May 2013 (UTC)
