Seed

seed does not work –Preceding unsigned comment was added by 85.113.160.145 (Talk) 18:29, 17 January 2012 (UTC). Please sign your posts with ~~~~

The demo map was generated using an older version of Minecraft (Beta 1.3, most likely). The world generation process has changed several times since then. --Legoless 12:32, 10 March 2012 (UTC)
Wait, so is this demo Beta 1.3, like it says in the article, or is it the latest version? You're confuzzling me. :/ —71.197.220.208 05:50, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
The PC Gamer demo this article is about is a modified version of Beta 1.3 . The upcoming, non-beta 1.3 (an unfortunately confusing coincidence) will include a demo mode that a) is different, and b) will be documented in a separate article. -- Orthotope 06:16, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
The seed works in Beta 1.3_01, but the player spawns in a different location, and there are no chests, signs, or PC Gamer logo. -- Luke18033 (talk) 19:44, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

but beta 1.3_01 is not a demo so thats why there are no chests, signs, or PC Gamer logo--177.37.195.233 16:24, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Some bugs

[edit source]
Latest comment: 16 May 20162 comments2 people in discussion

Right after I deleted my demo world I started a new one. And I was in the same world again. All things I did where still there: My house still stood, the forest was still missing (because I burned it down), the chest at the spawn was empty, only my inventory has been reseted. Maybe we could add that as a bug because the demo is not meant to last longer than 100 minutes at least in the same world. Also I noticed that the debug screen doesn't work. --☺ Sven ? ! 19:27, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

The missing debug screen probably isn't a bug. New players would probably be confused by all of the debug information, so they disabled it. -- Luke18033 (talk) 19:51, 16 May 2016 (UTC)

Did the far lands exist in the demo?

The Far Lands did exist in PC Gamer Demo. Just checked using NBTEdit. --5t3in3r5 08:05, 14 June 2013 (UTC)

Turn creation images into GIF.

Latest comment: 17 May 20164 comments3 people in discussion

I have tried making an animated gif of the "demo is over" images, but the wiki thinks it is too big of a file size, I guess, so it won't animate.--Luke18033 (talk) 17:59, 15 May 2016 (UTC)

Any animated gifs with more than 12.5 million total pixels (counting all frames) will not be animated unless viewed at full size. Resizing images is computationally intensive, so this limit is intended to keep the server from getting bogged down trying to process large files. Reducing the number of frames is probably the best solution in this case. -- Orthotopetalk 18:47, 15 May 2016 (UTC)
I am using Gif Cam to create the gif, so it should be adding delays to the frames where nothing changes, instead of making a new frame. I could possibly try removing the fade effect between creations, meaning there would only be about 9 frames. -- Luke18033 (talk) 19:33, 16 May 2016 (UTC)
How many megabytes is the file? Last time I checked, the maximum size was 8 MB. The Blobs👁 Image

Rename

I think the name "PC Gamer Demo" would better suit the article. The "Minecraft" bit is redundant, considering this entire wiki is about Minecraft. Thoughts? ―HalfOfAKebab (talk, contribs) 18:46, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Definitely support. - MinecraftPhotos4U (talk) 18:59, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Rename No.2

Why should it be PC Gamer Demo and not PC Gamer demo? Why does the D need to be capital? 172.83.43.136 12:30, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

Pretty sure "PC Gamer Demo" is not an official name and that the article topic is simply a demo that's part of "PC Gamer", so I'd support decapitalizing the D as well.--Madminecrafter12 (Talk to me | View what I've done) 13:56, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

The splash text that is always displayed on the title screen of the PC Gamer Demo very clearly says "PC Gamer Demo", not "PC Gamer demo". Plus, the text "Minecraft Demo (PC Gamer)" is always displayed in the top left corner of the screen, again with "Demo" having a capital D. Since the D is capitalized within the game itself, Demo with a capital D should be regarded as the official spelling, and the article's title should reflect that. Backported fixes from newer Beta versions

[edit source]
Latest comment: 29 January 20241 comment1 person in discussion

While working on my project, I have noticed that two pumpkin-related fixes were backported either from Beta 1.5 or some minor version of Beta 1.6.x (which was released around the time PC Gamer Demo was published), and likely there are many more fixes which should be investigated upon.

Edit: Aside from two control changes (just added) and previously documented pumpkin-related fixes I couldn't find any more sights of backported stuff from Beta 1.4/Beta 1.5. And note that Beta 1.6 was likely released much later than PC Gamer Demo as the official demo website shows release date of April 19, 2011, not June 2011 like it shows on the wiki, which seems to be the later release date of the disc containing demo. Maybe it's worth to see whether or not the disc version is different from downloadable one?

Resolved

Dearest Development Team, on this wiki page (Java Edition PC Gamer Demo), the link to the download no longer works, attempting to download it simply opens then closes the page with nothing downloading. Linking to an archived version of the page (2012 seems to work) may be better.

Thank you
