The article mentions that pumpkins generate in "most overworld biomes", and that since 1.2.0 it generates in "many of the newly added biomes". This leaves the question; If it generates in most biomes (thus it does not generate in all biomes), which biomes are in- and excluded? My guess would be that only the ocean and river biomes are excluded, does anyone know for sure? 86.82.30.109 12:10, 6 May 2016 (UTC)
So what is going to be: for now do we keep Pumpkin and Carved Pumpkin merged into one article, or...? -172.31.11.175 22:41, 24 November 2017 (UTC)
I don't anywhere on the page saying the minimum and maximum time pumpkins can take to grow (only stems!), or how many random ticks they take and etc, like we have on the Sugar Cane page. Is it known? Please add if anyone knows.

Bone meal cannot be applied to pumpkin stems. I think the statements on this page and the tutorial page about bone meal working on stems should be removed. Unless someone objects in the next few days, I will remove them. SirDaddicus (talk) 11:05, 21 October 2020 (UTC)
I thing that this page should be splitted cause the pumpkin and carved pumpkin are completly different blocks (different usage, different obtaining etc..) xrup (Talk) 👁 Image

In Beta 1.8 Pre-release the pumpkin seeds were intended to be added to Mineshaft loot chests along with melon seeds, but the pumpkin seeds never appeared in those chests until Beta 1.9 Pre-release.
In Beta 1.9 Pre-release 2, the ability to craft pumpkin seeds from pumpkins was added.
I verified this through gameplay testing.
I tried to make these edits but I kept breaking the table formatting, so I've put it here instead in the hopes someone can add them.
Before the Update Aquatic, the Pumpkin texture had a face carved into it and you could craft it together with a torch to make a jack-o'-lantern. This was how pumpkins worked in Bedrock, Java, and Legacy Console editions. Then Update Aquatic (Java 1.13, Bedrock 1.4.0, and Legacy Console TU69/1.76/Patch 38) split pumpkins into regular and carved versions. Their History sections (individually for all 3 editions) document this by saying the Pumpkin block was renamed to Carved Pumpkin and a new Pumpkin block was added to the game. I don't think that's right though; at least, I'm convinced that that's not how it was implemented in Bedrock. Instead, I believe Bedrock changed the pumpkin block to give it a faceless texture and to remove the crafting table recipe, and added a new Carved Pumpkin block, giving it the old texture and recipe. In support of this theory, I cite the following: I used an inventory editor on a pre-1.4.0 world to examine a placed Pumpkin block and a Pumpkin item in inventory. Both had ID number 38, as expected. Then I opened the world in 1.4.0 to upgrade it. After observing that the block and item no longer appeared carved, I saved the world and examined it with the editor again. Both still had ID number 38. The only way this could be true if the implementation were correct as described in the History sections, is if the renamed Pumpkin were assigned a new ID number along with a new name, and its old number were reassigned to the new Pumpkin. But that's extremely unlikely, because upgrading a saved world would force you to scan the entire world to change the ID numbers of all its Pumpkin blocks.
So I believe the implementation assumed by the History writers was wrong, though that's not surprising: Things are usually more strongly bound to their appearance than their name, and the changelogs are vague about exactly exactly how it was done. Furthermore, the exact details wouldn't even matter to ordinary players, which explains why it took >6 years for anybody to notice this. It only matters to technical people who are trying to understand deep details they find in the game code or world save files; those details don't make sense in the context of a different implementation.
As to why I'm not fixing the History sections myself: It turns out that in November 2023 when this page was (apparently) split to give Carved Pumpkin its own page, the History sections were (sorry to be blunt) botched. Not because the facts were incorrect, but because they didn't always wind up on the right page. Some changes to Carved Pumpkins wound up on this page, and vice versa. I wanted to leave this information here for other technical people who might have need of it, but I've already spent hours understanding this mess and I've gone as far down the rabbit hole as I care to go. – Auldrick (talk) 02:38, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
Update: I have now gone back and modified the histories of Pumpkin and Carved Pumpkin to reflect my interpretation of the update, because I'm very sure my understanding is correct. Auldrick (talk) 06:26, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
