Template talk:Hatnote

I think this template is not necessary because it can easily be substituted using :''{{{1}}}''<br>. However according to Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Dablink, there are a lot of pages that use it. Ideally, we would have a bunch of users chaging the pages until the template is no longer used, otherwise deleting this template would put it at the top of the missing page list.

   Oppose. This template and :''blah blah...'' are not the same. The template uses a <div> tag with class and some additional styling. And adding that tag manually into each dablink template would be hectic since if, for example, you would need to modify the styling, you will have to do that in every template. — NickTheRed37 ^t/_c (f.k.a.   Actually, you are right. In Planned versions#Pocket edition, the whole thing is in italics, not just individual words.

  You are right, they are not the same, but if you test it you will notice that the only difference is a slight difference in the location, which is not noticeable unless they are put together for testing.

  Rarely, there are cases where we need dablinks going one after another.    Oppose: This template is not only to make dablinks more convenient, it is also to make them more consistent, a change to this template would easily be reflected in the rest, should global changes sever be required. It also can easily be used to produce the same style text outside of the templates.

   Oppose This template's purpose is as much about accessibility and semantics as it is about formatting - much more so, really. The fact that the exact same template exists on Wikipedia, filling the exact same role (and more, actually, since there it uses a module which offers much more functionality than our template does), should tell you a lot here. I have just copied the wikipedia:Module:Hatnote code into this wiki and I want it to be used for this template. However, since the template is fully-protected, I cannot implement the module into the the template. Fadyblok240 (talk) 00:17, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

I'm not sure it's a good idea to copy/use Wikipedia modules just for the sake of it, as it adds complexity for editors. Does the module provide additional functionality that would be useful on this wiki? –Sonicwave ^talk 00:28, 8 August 2020 (UTC)

The template's inline styles (style="font-style: italic; margin-left: 1em;" stuff) should be removed as those are already applied via MediaWiki:Common.css#L-138, and it is currently making all hatnotes look doubly indented. Shayani (talk) 09:04, 7 October 2023 (UTC)

I noticed that some pages (like {{See also}} are referring to it as {{Dablink}} instead of {{Hatnote}}. Is there any particular reason for this, or would it be okay to just switch all instances of "Dablink" to "Hatnote"? --Simanelix ^(T|C) 01:25, 25 April 2024 (UTC)
