Should we try use sprites for these? It feels to bland right now, and even if there is no in-game sprites, I think there is still something we can do. LeftQuadrilateral (talk) 01:10, 2 August 2025 (UTC)

I'm not sure what to make of a lot of these sprites. It's not a bad idea to use them for enchantments, but many are either too abstract or repeated over and over. Doesn't really make things any clearer when you have to pause to think what they mean. A few like a burst of wind for wind burst or inviso-Steve for curse of vanishing make sense, but sweeping edge just being a sword doesn't really tell you anything you wouldn't already know. It's already in the sword section. Realshow19 (talk) 23:22, 17 January 2026 (UTC)
- Sweeping edge particles need to be uploaded to the wiki. SeaOfPixels (talk) 04:51, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
- Forward from the discord:
- Until we actually create EnchantmentSprite for them, it shouldn't try to represent them using some random effect/item/block/etc. sprite instead.
- I think current sprites don't help but make things more confusing. -- Leo768 (talk) 06:59, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
- Every other navbox uses miscellaneous sprites to represent stuff, see the gameplay navbox. SeaOfPixels (talk) 07:54, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
- No. Navbox books for example. Even if that's true, current sprites just make the enchantment navbox worse instead of better.
- A main issue here is that enchantments are a type of typical feature like blocks and effects, and it should not use a feature's icon to represent a different feature. -- Leo768 (talk) 09:21, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
- Navbox books is not about game features. The game feature ones are represented by game feature sprites. SeaOfPixels (talk) 17:14, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
- I believe that the purpose of sprites is to allow readers to identify, at a glance, the item they are looking for in a list. I honestly see no value in using sprites if they are not iconic: if you still need to read the text to find the item you're looking for and can't rely on sprites, or that sprites don't help you by giving you additional context, then they're unnecessary at best and visual clutter at worst.
- Regarding this navbox in particular, some of the current sprites are great, but some are very ambiguous and don't convey the enchantment well IMO (lunge, all 3 trident enchantments, or piercing for example). I think that making our own custom sprites would not solve this issue, as several enchantments are simply difficult to represent visually while remaining iconic. Sometimes it's fine to simply not use sprites, not everything needs sprites everywhere; and until someone comes up with custom enchantment sprites that actually work to prove me wrong, I'll think that this navbox is one of these things. - Zamburger (talk) 09:43, 18 January 2026 (UTC)
- Yes, the navbox seems to just use sprites for visual flair even though none of it's useful. It should just go back to being regular links. 👁 Image

- Should we go ahead and act on this? It's been a while. 👁 Image
