In 1.9 cows and sheep somehow keep escaping a simple pen with some carpets on fences. Even though I never open gates and the pens aren't even overcrowded. I think that this happens, when 2 cows jump at the same time near a carpet on a fence - one cow nudges another (while in the air) towards the carpet and it escapes, but I haven't witnessed it. Or itmight be world loading glitches, because I often see them outside pens after the world is loaded. 21:32, 23 April 2016 (UTC)

I'd say dirt and wood, in the beginning of a game. It's a meaningless question though. When hunger kicks in, farmland blocks are useful. Amatulic (talk) 03:22, 19 October 2020 (UTC)

I have been editing this article recently (trying to update the prose style, add more tips, citations, grammar corrections etc. ) and I feel as though this ought to be renamed 'Meat farming', as this specifically deals with farming for meat from passive mobs in the Overworld.
