Hello!
Your HDWGH guide in the tutorial for all advancements is great, however things can always be improved :)
First, I added an "optional" step after getting Bad Omen. This should help reduce the chance of failures.
Second, the table with effects differs from tutorial page to your userpage by quite a lot - I'm guessing you didn't do that, but the thing I'm wondering about are the beacons. It isn't really necessary to kill the wither 5 times for this, only Haste is 100% required, possibly Resistance, but maybe not Strength/Jump Boost/Speed? These can be much more easily achieved from potions, and farming this many wither skulls is super tedious. Tutorial said it needs 3 beacons, possibly because of the glitch that lets you do 2 primary powers in 1 beacon, but that is considered a bug so I removed it.
Third, even if we stick to the 5-beacon plan, only one of these has to be at maximum level. Others can be at level 1 and 2, reducing number of mineral blocks from 240 as you suggest - and 212 as the tutorial suggests - to 185.
What do you think? Melwin22 (talk) 10:29, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
- Okay, so after trawling through the revision history since I first merged it, I can clarify a few things:
- 1. I wrote 5 beacons needed because I preferred the reliability and reusability of beacons over the relative ease of obtaining (a single attempt's worth of) potions, especially since I'd already gone to all the trouble in my playthrough to build ianxofour's wither skeleton farm, and I probably wrote a higher number of mineral/prismarine blocks than strictly necessary in order to increase range (speed/conduit power in particular can help get into the contraption faster), as well as the sheer quantity of iron a golem farm can produce. That said, it may be preferable to note in the tutorial that some of the beacons can be eschewed for potions, as long as we can make sure the blueprints still make sense
- 2. It seems Windwend changed it to 3 beacons needed (revision 2255626 on 2023-05-01T04:51:20). The edit in question doesn't really explain why. I was not aware of the double primary power glitch (and I still haven't really looked into it, so I don't know if I would've even advised using it if I did)
- 3. I like the nametagging the second pillager captain thing; that's a good idea
- 4. Also thanks for splitting the advancements up by tabs. I was tired of sorting through all the changes to the entire page just to find the ones that changed the HDWGH section.
- Sorry for the late response; I don't check here too often JKPwnage () 06:46, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, it seems that someone mentions my name. Sorry that I didn't give an explanation to the change in the number of beacons. It is due to the unintended behavior (MC-174630 – Secondary beacon effect remains when switching primary effect) that a beacon can give off two effects at the same time, therefore only 3 beacons are needed instead of 5. This is a Java-only behavior, but since advancements are Java-only anyway, I just thought it is not very notable. Hope this explanation helps! Windwend (talk) 07:40, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
