This remake is a lesson on why pretty visuals do NOT make up for terrible writing

A movie rendition that strips away every emotion, nuance, complexity, character growth the original 1970s anime had, leaving nothing but a souless empty shell. Even the rich historical setting loses all it's meaning in what feels more like a badly put together recap than a proper movie adaptation, add to the already extreamly rushed pacing the random musical numbers that fit exactly zero stylistically interrupting the story every 5-10 minutes and you have the recipe for the most desperete milking of a series ever attemped

The great Satoshi Kon... unfortunately did not win me over with this one.
While i generally do really like his directing style, i feel it's a much better fit for movies, which brings me to my main gripe about Paranoia Agent

It is dragged out by excessive dialogue, and worst of all, maybe this one's more of a personal complaint, dialogue between horrible and obnoxious people, keep in mind these are side characters that serve next to nothing to the plot, i can handle such characters when they serve a purpose, but having lived with such people irl, watching them bitch to one another (sometimes for entire ... episodes) is not exactly my idea of entertaining, in fact i'd go as far as to say it is vomit enducing

I will admit though, there were a handful of really good episodes i genuinely enjoyed, and while i don't think this was his best executed work, i do understand what he was trying to convey with it, it was however not enough to salvage the series, especially with it's weak ending

This movie can be condenced into one simple word: bland

As someone who absolutely loves sprinting i was ecstatic when i found out about this anime, as i waited patiently for it to be released in my home country i couldn't help but imagine the adrenaline rush of racing, it sitting in the back of my mind just waiting to burst, until finally i found the time to watch it... and it couldn't have flopped harder

Everything from the script to the character designs to the directing, and worst of all, the races themselves, could not feel more insipid. And no, adding a few special effects and ... speed lines here and there while the characters run as they're panting louder than a dog in a heatwave does not automatically give the scenes impact

What should'be been 100 meters of pure ecstasy ended up being 100 minutes of utter boredom

I will admit, it took me a while to warm up to this series.
Plot-wise it didn't have the strongest start and was quite predictable, our female lead Lili came off as pretty insufferable a few too many times, and while i do understand a script needs to be somewhat relatable and comprehensible by a modern audience, there are times in the first half of the show where the dialogue sounds more like a bunch of teens from the 2020s cosplaying at an edwardian fair than a 1900s period drama, compltely breaking the immersion the beautifully curated and historically accurate setting creates

But, there was a saving ... grace in this anime beyond it's magnificent visuals, and that came from our male lead, Kit.
I have to say, Kit was the one who kept that spark of curiosity just bright enough that i didn't give up on this show, and this is not only because he's the type of character i tend to like in a series, i also found his writing and developement to be handled masterfully, conveying those feelings of melancholy with the subtlety of delicate brushstrokes bringing a painting to life

I always say, there's no such thing as being good at writing one gender and bad at the other, and the skillful writing of Kit was proof enough that there was more to our Lili as well, as soon enough we get to see the depth that was hiding beneath. While the supporting cast doesn't receive quite as much developement for themselves, they do each serve a purpose for helping our two leads grow

I'm very glad i did stick with this anime till the end as the second half is really where it shined for me, save for a couple of pacing nitpicks in the last few episodes, i really have nothing bad to say on it's wonderful finale

The 2nd generation of PreCure is a solid entry in the franchise
Similar enough to the OG that is has a sense of familiarity, but also different enough that it brings some novelty to the series

The dynamic between the PreCure is a very sweet one, with Mai and Saki being more similar in personality to eachother than Nagisa and Honoka were, it brings a fresh and more chill perspective on the power of friendship trope that's seen in many mahou shoujo and battle shounen

I'd say the one downfall of Splash Star is some of the villains are quite weak writing-wise, but the second half of the ... show brings on villains with a lot more depth to them, from codependant relationships with their leader, to breaking the pure evil black and white mold, and mastermind puppeteers in the shadows, this season does a great job exploring the neuances of darkness while still keeping it's cartoonish and flamboyant charm

Never did i think i would've come across such dreadful writing in anime

The story of a humanzee, a human-chimp hybrid, as he embarks on the quintessential human teenage experience of high school, all while many mysteries lurk just around the corner. Sounds like a very imaginative and intriguing premise

Unfortunately, it is plagued with one of, if not the worst, scripts i've ever seen come out of an anime

Within half an episode it's "sexist this" "progressive that" and "oh veganism is so cool!" (insert eye roll here)
With that, this proves yet again that, regardless of where a series is from, when you are so focused on ... pushing an agenda, an ideology, over actually developing the story and characters, the result is an utter lack of quality

But the part that just really hit a nerve the most for me was the staunch veganism rethoric, not because i'm some a-hole who hates all vegans, if you are an adult chosing to be vegan of your own free will understanding of all it's pros and cons and don't force it onto others, you are free to do whatever you please, but, when the "vegans are so caring" attitude starts to rise it's ugly lil head, i am gonna call bull in the vast majority of cases, including this one

I'm sorry, but i'm supposed to belive this story was made by someone who cares about animals? Who is empathetic towards other spiecies? Not to mention you (the author) seemingly did not even bother to do some research on chimp behaviour before creating your hybrid character, had you done so:

1) Your humanzee would show a lot more empathy and understanding as you would understand that being a different spiecies and seeing the world differently does not equate to being emotionally stunted and apathetic as Charlie is portrayed

2) You would know that chimpanzees, like us humans, are omnivours. While chimps do not consume nearly as much animal products as humans do as they evolved in a habitat where plant products are the most plentiful, a small amount of animal products is a part of a chimp's diet, this includes insects, birds, eggs, rodents and, i'll give some credit to the one scene that showed some accuracy in chimp behaviour, Charlie would most likely not quite understand why humans are so appalled by the idea of other humans getting eaten, because yes, the last part of a chimp's omnivorous diet is smaller spiecies of monkey (Don't belive me? Google it, or do one better and pick up an encyclopedia)

Having not read the manga i can't say if this is an accurate adaptation of it's source material or not, but if it's not, then they did you dirty Mr. Mangaka, cuz the way this show is written, sounds like it came from a narcissistic "holier than thou" human with a superiority complex

For the most part a brilliant anime
While there where the tell tale signs of some lose ends forming, the bulk of the story's delicate themes were handled masterfully, with a very detailed psychological analysis of the characters which gave the show both a lot of intrigue and depth

However it completely lost me in the last few episodes
What was meant to be a very emotional twist completely derailed the developement that was built thus far, creating more lose ends than ever all whilst certain characters personalities take a complete 180 and bad behaviour gets way too romanticized for my taste

An endearing story accompanied by beautifully curated visuals... unfortunately, Kino's Journey stops at that for me.
While the relationship between Kino and Hermes is a very sweet one (i won't go into more detail to avoid spoilers), i didn't feel the story had that depth many watchers allude to

The various themes that are tackled as Kino travels from one town to the next feel more like a taste than an exploration.
Even the episode on Kino's past, personally i think the best in the series, while it does delve into some very interesting character writing such as how Kino views herself and the special bond she has ... with Hermes, these are never really revisited beyond that one episode, something which i think had they decided to do would've added a lot more character developement to both Kino and Hermes

Finally! We get to see Chainsaw Man in all it's glory
From the masterful direction to the immersive OST to the godly animation
I can confidently say this arc was adapted to perfection and more

While i had my qualms on how season 1 handled some scenes and character dynamics, the Reze arc did a complete 180 on that blowing me away at every step as main and supporting characters gleam with depth and developement, a combination of heartfelt storytelling and production gold that brought the manga panels to life magnificently if not even enhanced them further
Saying this movie surpassed my expectations would be an understatement

Really liked the horror theme this season of Digimon was going for, that paired with it's episodic nature gave it a bit of a Twilight Zone vibe.
Unfortunately, it's episodic structure also has it's downsides, leaving little to no room for character developement and plotlines that get teased every few episodes without ever truely progressing

It also suffers from the same problem as Adventure 2020 of the later digivolutions not having much impact, the only exeption i can think of being Jellymon's super-digivolution, managing to create that sense of hype along with giving both her and Higacchi one of the few character developement moments in the series

That ... said, Ghost Game still remains a fun watch for die-hard Digimon fans to get to see new digimon and old favorites and does have it's standout episodes
