Collaborate with Gemini in Google Chat (Workspace Experiments)

With Gemini in Chat, when you have a space or conversation open, you can:

  • Summarize that space or conversation.
  • Generate a list of action items from that space or conversation.
  • Answer specific questions about that space or conversation.

Feature availability:

  • This feature is available as part of our early access testing program, Learn more about Google Workspace Experiments.
  • To turn off Google Workspace Experiments features, exit the Workspace Experiments program.
  • This feature is also available in the Gemini Business and Gemini Enterprise Alpha.

Summarize a file

You can use Gemini to summarize a file within a conversation if:

  • A message isn’t blocked.
  • File types shared as Drive links in Google Chat are:
    • Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides
    • .pdf
    • .csv
    • .txt
    • Zip files
    • Microsoft Office formats, like:
      • .docx (Word)
      • .xlsx (Excel)
      • .pptx (PowerPoint)
  • Download restrictions are off for the file.

To summarize a file:

  1. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chat app 👁 Image
    or Gmail app 👁 Image
    .

  1. Select a direct message or space with a file in the conversation.
  2. Under the file, tap Summarize 👁 Image
    .

Turn off Gemini in Chat

To turn off any of the features on Google Workspace Experiments, you must exit Workspace Experiments. If you exit, you’ll permanently lose access to all Workspace Experiments features, and you won’t be able to rejoin Workspace Experiments. Learn how to exit Workspace Experiments.

  • Generated images are for use only within Chat.
  • Workspace Experiments generated images are designed to bring your imagination to life in Chat, and may not represent real world situations.
