Use reading mode in Chrome

Customize your reading experience on Chrome with reading mode. This feature helps you:

  • Focus more easily on text.
  • Reduce distractions on screen.
  • Select alternate typeface and font size.
  • Choose color theme.

If you’re using Chrome on a computer, you can also:

  • Listen to text read out loud.
  • Select a voice and change voice speed.
  • Adjust line and letter spacing.

Turn reading mode on or off

You can read web pages in reading mode without distractions.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Chrome 👁 Chrome
    .
  2. Go to the web page you want to read.
  3. Tap More 👁 More
    .
    • To turn on reading mode: Tap Turn on Reading Mode.
    • To turn off reading mode: Tap Turn off Reading Mode.

Tips:

  • If a web page doesn’t display well:
    1. Tap Turn off Reading Mode.
    2. Read the page in normal view.
  • If the web page isn’t available in reading mode, you’ll get an error message, “Reading mode failed.”

Use reading mode to make reading easier

While in reading mode, you can adjust font settings and background color.

  1. At the top left, tap Reading mode 👁 Image

  2. You can:
    • Adjust the font: Select a font style.
      • The default font style is Sans Serif.
    • Adjust the font size: Tap Font size 👁 Image
      .
    • Change the reading mode background color: To ensure a consistent background color at all times, select a background color.
