Collaborate with Gemini in Google Slides

With Gemini in Google Slides, you can:

  • Generate images.
  • Generate new slides.
  • Summarize a presentation.
  • Write or rewrite content.
  • Reference your Drive files as you write or create a new slide.

Get started with Gemini in Slides

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. At the top right, click Ask Gemini πŸ‘ Image
    .
  3. In the side panel, select a suggested prompt or write your own prompt.
    1. Select from the list of suggestions.
      • Tip: To get more options, select More suggestions.
    2. At the bottom, in the prompt box, replace the example text with the information that you want.
    3. Press Enter.

    • Tip: To avoid losing your history, insert a suggestion into your presentation. You lose your conversation history when:

      • You close and reopen the presentation.
      • Your computer goes offline.

Things to ask Gemini in Slides

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. At the top right, click Ask Gemini πŸ‘ Image
    .
  3. At the bottom right, click Tools πŸ‘ Image
    πŸ‘ and then
    Create images πŸ‘ Image
    .
  4. Enter a prompt that describes the image you want to generate.
  5. Click Submit πŸ‘ Image
    .
  6. Optional: When the image generates:
  7. To place the image in a slide, in the preview window, click Insert.
  8. To edit the generated image, enter a prompt that describes how you want to adjust the image.

You can use the Gemini in Slides side panel to generate a new slide.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
    • Tip: New slides will be generated using your current theme.
  2. At the top right, click Ask Gemini πŸ‘ Image
    . Or, you can use one of these other options:
  3. On the side panel, select a prompt or create your own. Reference files with @ to create slides using your documents from Google Drive.

      • "Create a slide proposing ideas for engaging with our customers."
  4. From the generated slide, you can:
    • Get a different version: In the menu at the bottom of the slide, click Retry πŸ‘ Image

    • Add the slide to your presentation: In the menu at the bottom of the slide, click Insert πŸ‘ Image
      .
    • Refine the generated slide: In the menu at the bottom of the slide, click Close πŸ‘ Close
      . On the side panel, write a new prompt.
    • Send feedback: In the menu at the bottom of the slide, click Good suggestion πŸ‘ Image
      or Bad suggestion πŸ‘ Image
      .

When you open a presentation and add text boxes, you can ask Gemini to generate a title or body text. Your slide needs to have existing content in order to see this suggestion.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. Select an empty text box.
  3. Below the box, select an option:
    • For title box: Click Write a title.
    • For a body text box: Click Help me write.
  4. After you click β€œWrite a title” or β€œHelp me write,” the side panel opens and begins to generate your requested text.
  5. Click Insert πŸ‘ Image
    .
    • If the text box is selected, the output goes into it.

When you open a presentation that has text, in the Gemini in the Slides side panel, you’ll find a summary of your presentation.

You can also use Gemini to generate text for your presentation.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. At the top right, click Ask Gemini πŸ‘ Image
    .
  3. Enter a prompt:
    • Examples:
      • β€œSummarize this presentation in 3 sentences.”
      • β€œCreate a slide that celebrates a colleague's work anniversary.”
  4. Press Enter.
  5. To add the suggested content to the presentation, click Insert πŸ‘ Image
    .

You can use Gemini to reference files from your Drive to generate responses in Slide.

  1. On your computer, open a presentation in Google Slides.
  2. At the top right, click Ask Gemini πŸ‘ Image
    .
  3. To reference a Drive file, enter a prompt with the file name:
    • Example: β€œCreate a slide outlining the next steps from @meeting notes and @core team sync."
  4. To check which files were used, at the bottom of the response, click Sources.
  5. You can also:
  • β€œHow do I start a Q&A while presenting?”
  • β€œWhat is the best way to share these slides with more than 100 people?”

Important: To get answers from the web, make sure to include phrases like β€œUse Google Search” or β€œUsing web search” in your prompt.

  • β€œWrite a paragraph describing the weather today in Mountain View, California using web search.”
  • β€œHelp me write a paragraph explaining if lightning can strike the same place twice using only information from the web.”

  1. On your computer, at the top right, click Ask Gemini πŸ‘ Image
    .
  2. On the right, in the side panel, click Gems.
  3. Click the Gem you want to use.
  4. Select a custom or premade Gem.
    • To start a conversation with the Gem, type a question or prompt at the bottom.
Tip: To create a Gem, go to gemini.google.com. You can then use your Gem in the Gemini app and Gemini side panel. Learn how to use Gems in Gemini Apps.

Google Workspace with Gemini is constantly learning and may not be able to support your request.

If you get a suggestion that’s inaccurate or that you feel is unsafe, you can let us know by submitting feedback.

  1. Below the generated content, click Good suggestion πŸ‘ Image

  2. If you click Bad suggestion πŸ‘ Image
    , you can select the issue you find and enter additional feedback.
  3. Click Submit.
