Nose

• Human nostrils have a cartilaginous structure known as the septum, dividing them into right and left passages.

Larynx

• Plays dual role in vocalization and respiration.
• During swallowing, the epiglottis folds over the top of the windpipe, preventing food from entering the larynx.

Pharynx

• The nasal chambers connect to the pharynx which is a passage for air and food.
• The epiglottis, an elastic cartilage, directs air to the lungs and food to the gastrointestinal tract.

Trachea

• The trachea, or windpipe, extends from below the larynx downward into the neck.
• Its walls are reinforced by C-shaped cartilaginous rings, providing structural support and ensuring it remains open for airflow.
• Continuing into the chest, the trachea divides into two bronchi, each leading to a lung.

Bronchi

• The trachea divides into two bronchi, each entering a lung separately.
• These bronchi branch into secondary and tertiary bronchioles, eventually leading to small air sacs known as alveoli.
• Alveoli are single-celled structures with thin walls that enable the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide molecules with the bloodstream.

Lungs

• The lungs are spongy organs located on either side of the heart within the thoracic cavity.
• Their main role is to facilitate the exchange of gases between the blood and the air.
