It’s important to us to help newly arrived children at the children’s homes we support feel comfortable, confident, and welcomed into their new environment. To help ease this transition and create a fresh start, we provide clothes, toys, and other basic necessities.
Children come to KKOOM-supported children’s homes from all different ages and backgrounds. When children first arrive at the children’s homes, they often have very little with them. It can take time to get the needed government funding in place for the childrens’ basic necessities. This is where we step in, by providing immediate funds to the children’s home.
The average age of most of the children who come to the children’s homes is 2.5 years old, and most arrive between the ages of 12 months old to 5 years old.
Since April 2016, we have provided over 28 Welcome Boost Funds for newly arrived Korean children.
We have provided over $3,500 to ensure the children feel confident, loved, and cared for.
As needs arise, we provide a $150 Welcome Boost Fund per child to their house mother to purchase items like clothes, shoes, toys, and basic supplies to help children settle into their new home. It is a small gesture, but it has an immediate impact in making a child feel seen and loved in a difficult time.
