Electro-Koopas (alternatively spelled Electro-koopas),[1] also referred to as Electric Koopas[2] or Denki Nokonoko,[3] are Koopa Troopa enemies that appear in Super Mario Sunshine. They are quadrupedal Koopas, each with a shell adorned with electric coils that grant the enemy electrical powers. Because of this, Mario cannot defeat Electro-Koopas like other Koopa Troopas and stomp them out of or into their shells; simply spraying the enemies with water does not defeat them, either.

There are two types of Electro-Koopa: the aggressive Blue Electro-Koopa, which roams on the ground and attacks Mario on sight by tossing its shell, leaving it unshelled and vulnerable; and the passive Red Electro-Koopa, which clings to metal screens like Climbing Koopas and, like them, can be defeated if Mario punches it from the other side of the metal screen.

Electro-Koopas are common enemies in Pinna Park, and during "The Runaway Ferris Wheel," the Red Electro-Koopas and their leader, the Electro-Koopa King, take control of the park's Ferris wheel, causing it to rotate at a dangerous speed.

Electro-Koopas are one of many enemies and characters from Super Mario Sunshine to make a cameo appearance on the leaderboards in the Italian version of Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour.[4]

Names in other languages[edit]

The contemporaneous name for each language is listed first. Subsequent names are listed in chronological order for each language, from oldest to newest, and have the media with which they are associated in the "notes" column. Names exclusive to localizations of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia are not prioritized due to concerns about circular reporting, and are only listed first for their respective languages if they are the only ones available.
