Trompettes[1][2][3] are king trumpet mushroom enemies in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Like Goombas, they are weak mushroom enemies that walk along the ground. They are of varying heights, some so tall that a player character cannot jump over them unassisted. Once stomped, Trompettes fall and take out any other enemies behind them, as well as collect coins and other collectibles for the player character. Trompettes can safely walk along Spike Traps, another trait they share with Goombas. There are two colored varieties of Trompette: Brown Trompettes,[3] which continuously walk forward until they hit a wall or fall down a pit, and Purple Trompettes,[3] which turn around when the reach the edge of platforms. This mirrors the difference between Green and Red Koopa Troopas.
Brown Trompettes first appear in the Pipe-Rock Plateau courses Bulrush Coming Through! and Wiggler Race Mountaineering! They subsequently appear in the Shining Falls courses The Sharp Trial: Launch to Victory and POOF! Badge Challenge Crouching High Jump I, the latter of which necessitates using the Crouching High Jump badge to leap over some of the tallest Trompettes in the game. Brown Trompettes make their final appearances in Fungi Mines Special Dangerous Donut Ride. Purple Trompettes are less numerous than the brown ones and rarer, appearing only in Bulrush Coming Through! and POOF! Badge Challenge Crouching High Jump I.
According to official Japanese Nintendo blog posts, the heights of Trompettes correspond to their ages, with the oldest individuals being the tallest.[2] They are also rumored to be related to Mumsies, which are similarly varying in height.[4]

"Trompette" is the French noun for "trumpet," alluding to their inspiration, the king trumpet mushroom.
