Finney & Teegarden Hem . Mag. Mine

A former Fe-S-pyrite-fluorspar occurrence/mine located 1.4 miles E of Sandy Gap and 4 miles WSW of Elk Mills, on National Forest land. Operated by the Virginia Iron, Coal and Coke Company.

Mineralization is an Fe deposit hosted in the Honaker Dolomite, syenite, and Neoproterozoic gneiss. The ore body is in lenses & layers. Controls for ore emplacement included a zone of weakness in the country rock. Mineralization may be Precambrian or Paleozoic but the age is unknown. Ores are crushed and metamorphosed and may have been introduced pre-shearing with resultant alteration or post-shearing and subsequently metamorphosed. Major units include Precambrian basement complex. Local rocks include the Precambrian Cranberry Granite.

Workings include a small ore dump.

A small amount of Fe was produced.
