Dines (1956) notes little is known of this mine and nearby Wheal Devonshire and West Polberro located near St Agnes Head.
"At Wheal Bungay there were three shafts, Engine Shaft, a second 300 yds SE of this and another 400 yd SSW. An adit commencing on the cliffs 300 yds W by S of the Engine Shaft extends 17 fathoms E towards a line of old surface workings, trending SE about 130 yards S of Engine Shaft. The dumps contain colourless and green fluorite. Granite of the St Agnes Beacon was penetrated but the place and depth are not known."
More recently ploughed up shoad stones have been recovered here consisting of granite in which cassiterite has replaced blocky feldspar crystals.
