Black sand beds (natural accumulations of heavy detrital minerals) up to 20cm thick, interlaminated with thicker normal pale-coloured quartz sand strata, form a belt about 3 km long and 100 meters wide, in the Ebro delta to the south of the Ebro river mouth.

Analysis of one 2.5Kg sand sample extrapolates to 2.2 grams gold and 68 grams zircon per cubic meter of sand.
