The Galahad open pit is immediately south of its much larger King of the Hills giant pit, and near the site of the former processing plant.

The deposit is on the north-east margin of the Raeside Batholith. Granite is exposed on the south flanks of the pit, and intense foliated chlorite schist after basalt exposed on the northern flanks.

The deposit shows four stages of deformation. The extensional fabric overprinted by north over south thrusts and reverse faults. The fabric comprises intense steep dipping north-south crenulation cleavages. The final stage is a series of ductile spaced extensional shear bands. At what stage gold was deposited is unknown, but is likely to have been during the early stage extensions.
