The Lovejoy granite quarry opened in 1886 and was in South Milford, about 2 miles S. 25ยฐ W. of Milford village, on the 380-foot level, on the southwest side of an oblong hill 440 feet high.

Granite was is a quartz monzonite of light-gray shade spangled with black mica. It was located on a railroad spur of the Boston & Maine Railroad.
