Aplites are hollocristallyne granitic rocks exhibiting fine-grained, equigranular to heterogranular textures. Both barren and spodumene-bearing aplites are primarily composed of plagioclase (48–81 vol%), quartz (1–35 vol%), and K-feldspars (0–5 vol%). In spodumene-bearing varieties, K-feldspars content may locally increase to as much as 10 vol%, coinciding with the presence of spodumene, which occurs in varying amounts from 1–25 vol%. Plagioclase is represented by two generations of subhedral to anhedral crystals with irregular contours and characteristic polysynthetic twinning.
