Thompson (reported owner during WWI), California (1976). Operated by Guy Walsh and Mr. Hall (1917-1918). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
The ore body is lenticular, disseminated, strikes N40W and dips 80N at a thickness of 30 meters, a width of 9 meters and a length of 24 meters. The primary mode of origin was magmatic differentiation. Primary ore control was lithology and the secondary control was fracturing. Wallrock alteration includes carbonitization. Some magnetite was reported present and some of the ore was said to be mixed with hematite. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
workings include surface openings comprised of a pit 4 feet wide, 8 to 10 feet long and 10 feet deep. Another pit was about 30 feet SE and was 3 feet wide, 6 feet long and 10 feet deep. There was also a prospect trench 2 to 3 feet wide.
E.H.Thompson and H.C.Schroeder shipped 49 long tons of ore in 1916. The ore contained about 35% Cr2O3. Walsh and Harted realized a production of 147 long tons in 1917. No work has been done since 1917.
