A former Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 27, T2N, R12E, SBM, 0.7 km (0.4 mile) NE of Sheep Hole Pass (coordinates of record), along the E side of the pass (NW margin of the Sheep Hole Mountains) (4.5 miles N of tghe North shore of Dale Lake), on federal wilderness land (Sheephole Valley Wilderness Area). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
This property was examined in conjunction with the mineral appraisal of the Sheep Hole/Cadiz Wilderness Study Area (Bureau of Land Management) in 1980-1981. Backup information can be found in the WFOC mineral property files.
Mineralization is hosted in granite. The ore body strikes N35-40W and dips 55-65NE at a thickness of 1.22 meters. 2 parallel veins occur at 2 to 4 feet thick. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic granitic and metamorphic rocks undivided.
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of an incline and an open cut. An old millsite with an arrastra are on the property.
