A Cr-PGE (Pd-Ru-Rh-Ir-Pt) occurrence located in secs. 19 & 30, T30N, R12W, MDM, 6.6 km (4.1 miles) ENE of Copper Hill, on the divide between North Post Creek and Philpot Creek, S of Mud Spring, on National Forest land (located claim). Owned by C. O. Benson (1943). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. NOTE: Chrome No. 1 is located in the W½ sec. 30.
Mineralization is a Late Triassic Cr-PGE deposit (Deposit model: 15: Podiform chromite (minor)), hosted in dunite. The ore body is massive lenses of chromite ore. Ore controls were magmatic segregation. Alterations local and invlves the serpentinization of ultramafic rocks. Associated rocks include peridotite. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 9 (Western Klamath Mountains) and/or undated granitic rocks, unit 2 (Western Klamath Mountains).
Local structures include: Peridotite bodies which strike SW.
Related tectonic structures: Klamath Mountains Accreted Terrane - Rattlesnake Creek Terrane.
Workings include unspecified surface openings.
Analytical data results: 2 PGE analyses: Pt=12,545 ppb; Pd=1,110 ppb; Ir=<20,110 ppb; Ru=<1,250 ppb; and Rh=733 ppb.
