Named in honour of Marco Ernesto Ciriotti (b. 1945), Italian amateur mineralogist at the University of Turin and founding member of the Italian Micromineralogical Association, for his longstanding contribution to mineral systematics.
The Cu analogue of sterryite. Ciriottiite can also be described as an expanded derivative of owyheeite. Related to meerschautite.
