Micrite is a limestone constituent formed of very fine grained calcareous particles ranging in diameter up to five μm, formed by the recrystallization of lime mud. Compare with the coarser sparite and microspar.

Also used informally as a synonym of Lime-mudstone, a limestone consisting dominantly of micrite matrix; e.g., lithographic limestone.
