Cavite BRT to open in May

MANILA, Philippines — The Cavite Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) System is set to partially operate in May, giving commuters a point-to-point (P2P) option when traveling between Imus and Makati.

The Cavite BRT, being developed by Megawide Construction Corp. and Maplecrest Group Inc., will roll out P2P operations between Imus and One Ayala by May.

Megawide chief business development officer Jaime Feliciano said the P2P buses would benefit at least 5,000 passengers daily, most of whom are workers living in Cavite but are employed in Makati.

Likewise, Feliciano said the actual BRT is scheduled to open later this year. The BRT component of the project involves the construction of a dedicated bus lane through several towns in Cavite, namely, Kawit, Imus, General Trias, Tanza and Trece Martires.

Originally, the P2P segment of the Cavite BRT will connect to another Megawide project, the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX). However, Feliciano said the alignment was changed to One Ayala to serve the commuting demand in the Cavite-Makati corridor.

Still, Megawide plans to open P2P services between Cavite and PITX as soon as the Cavite BRT is in full swing.

Feliciano said the Cavite BRT faced regulatory delays as the project was supposed to open partially in September 2025.

He said Megawide had engaged in a back-and-forth meeting with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on the franchise issued to the company for bus operations.

The franchise has no precedent yet given that the Cavite BRT is the country’s first busway with a private operator. The franchise authorizes Megawide to sign contracting deals with bus operators.
