AMD EPYC 9755 Delivers Decisive Performance Leadership Over Xeon 6 Granite Rapids With Nearly 500 Benchmarks

It was a fun round of benchmarking given the software updates at hand. Rather than continuing to go page-by-page and be too burdensome with benchmarks, if you want to see all nearly 500 benchmarks in full you can do so via this result file.

Additionally, over the holidays I was toying around with some result viewer enhancements to help empower users to dive deeper into the benchmarks depending upon workloads that interest them and whether their interest is primarily about raw performance, power efficiency, or value. This new page offers the same complete data-set albeit in a hopefully more consumable form. The two columns at the left are designed to help breakdown the test viewing to particular workloads, the second column all the individual workloads, and then at the top more convenient viewing of performance / efficiency / value metrics. My hope is that it allows sharing more benchmark results in mass while being quick to target the workloads of individual reader interest and not overloading users with too much data. Enjoy and any feedback is appreciated as I contemplate incorporating that more into articles itself moving forward.

When taking the geometric mean of the nearly 500 benchmarks in total, the AMD EPYC 9755 2P delivered 1.45x the performance of the Xeon 6980P 2P server. With the same 128 cores / 256 threads per socket for those Turin and Granite Rapids processors, the 5th Gen AMD EPYC performance continues to demonstrate decisive performance leadership.

When looking at the combined dual CPU power consumption over that large variety of benchmarks conducted of varying intensity, the AMD EPYC power efficiency was in great shape for its performance delivered. If looking at the total server power consumption, it would be even more advantageous for 5th Gen AMD EPYC given the increased power consumption with MRDIMMs.

Again you can dive deeper into all the raw data in full via this new page.
