Catalyst On Ubuntu 14.04 Linux Competes Well With Windows 8.1
Similar to the NVIDIA Ubuntu 14.04 vs. Windows 8.1 OpenGL results shared earlier this week, the AMD Catalyst driver on Ubuntu 14.04 Linux also shows its strength compared to Windows 8.1 (updated) when running the same Catalyst driver release stream. The Ubuntu OpenGL results for the eight graphics cards were faster in several of the tests but in GpuTest and other select workloads, the AMD Windows driver was faster.
While the Catalyst driver tends to be widely criticized by Linux gamers and enthusiasts, these OpenGL results are quite positive compared to the Catalyst driver on Windows with its current level of OpenGL support. In the coming days will be more Catalyst Linux tests, including with the use of some Valve Source Engine titles.
