GCC 16 Produces Faster Binaries Than GCC 15, Competitive Race With LLVM Clang 22
With the GraphicsMagick imaging program, GCC 16 was showing some nice performance gains over GCC 15 for the produced binaries. But for some of the tasks like image sharpening and enhancement, the Clang 22 produced GraphicsMagick was noticeably faster than the GNU Compiler Collection.
For the HWB color space conversion and noise-gaussian tests with GraphicsMagick, the GCC 16 built program provided a very significant speed-up over Clang 22 and GCC 15 on this Threadripper workstation.
For the Kvazaar open-source H.265 video encoder, the Clang 22 binary was the fastest on this Linux x86_64 workstation except when dealing with the fastest encode presets.
With the OpenAPV video encoder was a competitive race between these open-source compilers for Linux x86_64 performance.
