The Intel Lunar Lake CPU Performance Gains On Linux Over The Past Year

With the Blender 3D modeling software rendering on the CPU, the render times were a little bit slower now on Ubuntu 26.04 than Ubuntu 25.04. But when looking at the CPU power use it was also lower, which in turn equated to slightly better performance-per-Watt now on this up-to-date Linux stack than from one year ago.

Similarly, the LuxCoreRender software was yielding slightly lower rendering performance but in turn also lower CPU power use and equated to wins in performance-per-Watt over the state of Linux in April 2025.

In fact, the power behavior is quite different now versus when initially testing Intel Lunar Lake on Linux thanks to improvements made in more recent kernel versions.

For Indigobench the performance didn't change much but the CPU power consumption was lower than in April 2025.

With Intel's OSPRay Studio software, the new Linux stack was not only faster but also consuming less power than back in April of last year.
