The Intel Lunar Lake CPU Performance Gains On Linux Over The Past Year
Overall with around 120 benchmarks run then and now on Ubuntu 25.04 vs. Ubuntu 26.04 LTS for this Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13, the performance with this new Ubuntu release is around 3% better overall.
But when looking at individual test cases, for a number of workloads are much greater gains due to a combination of software optimizations to the programs themselves over the past year as well as various Linux kernel improvements in the past year benefiting Lunar Lake.
Making these gains all the more exciting was that on average the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V was consuming around 1 Watt less on average, or around a 4% improvement.
Between newer software and in some cases performance gains to better power efficiency, Ubuntu 26.04 LTS is a nice upgrade for those currently on older Ubuntu releases with Lunar Lake such as the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13. Plus there are also very nice Xe2 graphics performance improvements to enjoy out of the newer Linux kernel and Mesa OpenGL/Vulkan drivers.
