Intel Meteor Lake On Linux Two Years Post-Launch: 93% The Original Performance
Going into this one of the areas I was personally most curious about was the Meteor Lake graphics performance difference with its Arc Graphics on the newer Mesa and Linux kernel.
With the vkpeak benchmark for testing the peak Vulkan performance capabilities, the biggest improvement was found in the fp16-vec4 performance while for other data types the performance was only mildly different from launch day.
But when moving to more demanding OpenGL and Vulkan graphics test cases, the performance now at the end of 2025 compared to end of 2023 was largely the same as on launch day. This caught me by much surprise as would have imagined there to be more significant gains over the past two years.
The performance-per-Watt in demanding graphics test cases like GravityMark was actually worse now than in December 2023.
When stressing the Intel Iris Gallium3D driver code with the Unigine OpenGL benchmark cases, the latest open-source software was delivering slower performance and worse performance-per-Watt than on launch day two years ago for Meteor Lake.
