AMD Radeon On Linux 6.13 + Mesa 25.0-devel vs. NVIDIA R565 Linux Graphics/Gaming Performance
Cyberpunk 2077 running on Steam Play is showing very competitive performance between the current Radeon graphics cards on the Mesa RADV driver and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 higher-end graphics cards. Cyberpunk 2077 hadn't been in some of my recent GPU/driver benchmarks since with Steam Play had been crashing. It turned out to be a Proton regression but if pulling back to Proton 8.0, Cyberpunk 2077 is again running nicely. Hopefully this will be fixed up by the time of Proton 10.0.
The RADV performance with the Radeon RX 7000 series has matured rather well during the RDNA3 lifecycle. It will be quite intriguing to see how well the Radeon RADV performance is when the RDNA4 graphics cards debut later this quarter. On the NVIDIA side with the GeForce RTX 50 series, there is typically less of a question of their Vulkan driver quality compared to Valve and others working on the RADV driver.
At least we won't have to wait too much longer before seeing how far the GeForce RTX 5090 Blackwell can push the Linux graphics performance.
