Linux 7.1 Is Performing Well Overall In Early Benchmarks

The Sockperf benchmark for network socket performance was indicating some improvements with Linux 7.1.

With the Ethr network benchmark there were also some gains spotted. The UDP performance improvement with Linux 7.1 may be due to the phase out of the UDP-Lite code.

The Hackbench scheduler benchmarks were also showing improvements out of Linux 7.1 Git on this Supermicro AMD EPYC server.

The ctx-clock micro-benchmark was also indicating a nice improvement for context switching time on Linux 7.1 at least for this AMD EPYC 9455P server.

For AI fans, the CPU-based AI inferencing performance with Llama.cpp was seeing some performance gains around prompt processing with different LLMs on Linux 7.1.

While there were performance drops found with the Nginx HTTPS web server and the Stress-NG Futex micro-benchmark, aside from those possible regressions the Linux 7.1 performance was either steady or slightly improved on this AMD EPYC 9005 series server. Some modest real-world wins for the likes of Memcached, Pogocache, and CockroachDB as well as some improvements spotted for some networking workloads as well as Llama.cpp prompt processing. Benchmarks on more hardware remain ongoing and will ramp up following the Linux 7.1-rc1 release on Sunday.
