After recently noting the Intel Arc B580 Battlemage performance improving with Linux 7.1 and similarly finding performance gains for the Arc Pro B70 on Linux 7.1, several Phoronix readers have been wondering whether the newer Xe3 graphics with Panther Lake similarly benefit. Here are some CPU and iGPU benchmarks of the Core Ultra X7 358H "Panther Lake" SoC between Linux 7.0 and the recently stabilized Linux 7.1 kernel.

Given the Intel Arc Battlemage dGPU improvements, there rightfully is a lot of curiosity whether the Xe3 integrated graphics with Panther Lake benefit. Additionally, Linux 7.1 also enables FRED by default as for what I have previously shown as delivering some CPU performance wins with Panther Lake. Plus in Linux 7.1 are also scheduler improvements and other enhancements that can potentially benefit performance. So using my lone Panther Lake laptop, the MSI Prestige 14 Flip AI+ with Core Ultra X7 358H, I ran some benchmarks between Linux 7.0 and Linux 7.1 Git for seeing the performance difference across CPU and iGPU workloads.

The same basic Kconfig kernel configuration was used between Linux 7.0 and 7.1 for testing on the same hardware with the kernel upgrade being the only hardware/software difference.
