Interestingly with the ParaView workstation visualization software, Pop!_OS 24.04 with its COSMIC desktop was delivering much stronger NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 graphics performance than the Ubuntu releases tested with GNOME.

With the Xonotic open-source OpenGL-rendered game there was a significant regression under Ubuntu 26.04. With the same hardware and also using the same NVIDIA 590 driver release packaged on Ubuntu Linux, the big performance regression for Xonotic is potentially due to an upstream GNOME/Mutter 50 change comes to mind as a possibility. Pop!_OS 24.04 and Ubuntu 24.04 performed quite similarly for this open-source game.

With the Unvanquished game the Ubuntu 26.04 release saw its performance drop at medium quality settings but in the more demanding scenarios wasn't exhibiting such behavior.

Or with the very demanding GravityMark benchmark was very similar performance across the three tested Linux releases with the official NVIDIA graphics driver for this Blackwell graphics card.
