Ubuntu 19.10 To 21.10: AMD Zen 2 + Radeon Performance On Linux Over Two Years
The most dramatic wins from Ubuntu 19.10 to 21.10 came with the OpenGL/Vulkan improvements for the Radeon graphics during this time even for the mature Radeon RX Vega. Outside of some mighty graphics performance wins, there were many cases where the performance improved from 5% to 20% over the past two years going from Ubuntu 19.10 to 21.10 on this AMD Ryzen 3900XT desktop.
117 tests were carried out and Ubuntu 21.10 was leading in 80% of them, with the rest there were a few cases of regressions but otherwise mostly neck-and-neck.
The geometric mean for all 117 benchmarks put Ubuntu 21.10 at 16% faster than Ubuntu 19.10 for this Ryzen 9 3900XT + RX Vega desktop. See all the tests in full via this OpenBenchmarking.org result file and stay tuned for more Ubuntu 21.10 benchmarks over the days ahead.
