Ubuntu 26.04 Delivers Great Performance Improvements For AMD Strix Point, Especially For RDNA 3.5 Graphics
When looking at the web browser performance with Firefox 149 on each, there ultimately was no real change in performance. Not unexpected given the same Firefox availability but just confirming nothing of note there.
Where things really get exciting for Ubuntu 26.04 on AMD Strix Point is the updated Linux kernel and Mesa graphics driver stack for RadeonSI OpenGL and RADV Vulkan. With the Xonotic first person shooter game there was some very incredible performance gains on Ubuntu 26.04 compared to the graphics stack shipped by Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS HWE from Ubuntu 25.10.
Making these performance gains even more exciting were that the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 SoC power use was basically the same.
With the open-source Unvanquished game, some really nice performance gains too with the new Ubuntu 26.04 for this year and a half old laptop hardware.
