Ubuntu 26.04 Delivers Great Performance Improvements For AMD Strix Point, Especially For RDNA 3.5 Graphics
For code compilation benchmarks, the results were rather flat. For some codebases the newer Ubuntu 26.04 release is expected to be slightly slower due to the switch from GCC 13 to GCC 15. Build times may slow down at the benefit of better performance of the resulting binaries thanks to new optimizations, tuning, and other enhancements.
For x265 as shipped by Ubuntu itself in the archive, the raw performance of x265 video encoding on Ubuntu 26.04 wasn't too exciting. But when looking at the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 power use and seeing slightly lower power use during video encoding there makes for a nice performance efficiency win.
Some of the OpenSSL improvements were especially exciting in seeing greater performance while also having lower power use on Ubuntu 26.04.
There weren't any clear across-the-board improvements with Ubuntu 26.04 but largely comes down to what workloads are most important to you, etc.
