In a few more programs the WSL2 performance indeed slightly edged past Ubuntu 20.04 itself.
One of the areas of poor performance for WSL was in I/O operations where it started out notoriously slow. Fortunately, WSL2 with its more VM-like approach allows much better I/O throughput. The WSL2 code compilation performance wasn't far behind Ubuntu 20.04
