Intel Xeon 6980P vs. AMD EPYC 9755 128-Core Showdown With The Latest Linux Software For EOY2025

The AMD EPYC 9755 processors were leading in the vast majority of HPC workloads over the Intel Xeon 6980P processors with this EOY 2025 Linux testing.

HPCG is one of the workloads where Granite Rapids picks up a win thanks to the MRDIMMs. The Xeon 6980P processors consumed more power alone while if factoring in the added MRDIMM memory consumption would be even higher relative to AMD EPYC Turin with DDR5-6400 memory modules.

The AMD EPYC 9755 Turin server was consistently outperforming the Xeon 6980P server with just the MRDIMM / AMX exceptions, such as with larger mesh sizes for the OpenFOAM computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software where the extra memory bandwidth of MRDIMM-8800 modules allow for a win.
