In his remarks at the opening session of the Decolonization Committee (C-24) on behalf of the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, the Chef de Cabinet Mr. Courtney Rattray underscored that inclusive dialogue, the role of young people and the urgent need for climate action remain central to the decolonization agenda.

Women in the Territories: Highlights

  • In Saint Helena, three women hold key public offices: the Legislative Council elected in September 2025 Honorable Dr. Rebecca Cairns-Wicks as Chief Minister, Honorable Maureen Thompson as Speaker, and Honorable Connie Johnson as Deputy Speaker.
  • In Anguilla, Honorable Cora Richardson-Hodge was elected as the Territory's first woman Premier in the general election held on 26 February 2025.
  • In the United States Virgin Islands, Lieutenant Deborah Hodge was appointed as Chief of Police for the Virgin Islands Police Department in the St. Thomas/ St. John District in March 2025, the first time in the Territory that a woman holds the position.
