The cost of Spotify Premium is going up again in the US.
This is the music streaming service's third price hike since 2023. On the plus side, the price increase is pretty marginal for most plan tiers, especially compared to recent subscription cost hikes from video streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+.
Individual Premium plans in the US are going up from $11.99 to $12.99, and student plans are increasing from $5.99 to $6.99, a $1 hike. On the other hand, Duo plans are going up from $16.99 to $18.99, and Family plans are moving to $19.99 from $21.99, a $2 increase across the board. All price increases go into effect at the next billing date, according to Spotify.
"Occasional updates to pricing across our markets reflect the value that Spotify delivers, enabling us to continue offering the best possible experience and benefit artists." said Spotify in an email announcing the price increase. The streaming music platform says that it's increasing prices "to keep delivering a great experience."
Spotify last increased the cost of subscriptions in the US in 2023 and then again in 2024. Prior to these price hikes, the cost of the music streaming platform remained the same since its launch in 2011, with Spotify sticking to its long-standing $9.99/month cost. Since the last price increase, Spotify's surprisingly excellent AI DJ has dropped and lossless audio support finally released.
Prices are also increasing in other regions, including Estonia and Latvia.
