Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin (SDP) will host an Independence Day celebration for hundreds of children on December 7, according to an announcement.

A total of 555 children are being invited to the event — two 10-year-olds from 280 municipalities across the country. 

The theme of this year's event is "The Makers of the Future," and each guest will be welcomed by the PM as they arrive.

Prime ministers have hosted Children's Independence Day parties three times before, during the years of 2017-2019, and was first organised in honour of Finland's centenary.

However, the festivities were called off over the past two years due to Covid.

The Prime Minister's Office is planning the party along with the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare and the Office of the Ombudsman for Children.
