The outlook for the Easter holiday weekend suggests a mixed bag of weather conditions, from sunshine to rain showers to light snowfall.
Good Friday will see overcast conditions in the south and east, according to Yle meteorologist Aleksi Lohtander, with temperatures hovering around 5 degrees Celsius. The sun will meanwhile shine in other parts of the country, with temperatures in central areas expected to climb up to 8 degrees Celsius.
On the roads, Thursday was a busy day as many people made long-distance journeys for the holiday weekend.
According to Fintraffic, Finland's traffic management agency, outbound traffic will be heavy again on Friday — especially between 9am and 2pm.
Some roads may even become congested, the agency added, especially on the main thoroughfares out of the capital as well as on National Roads 4, 5 and 9 up to the Jyväskylä and Mikkeli regions.
Roads busy from Sunday afternoon
Saturday will be chillier, with thermometers in the south dropping to as low as 3 degrees Celsius, and many parts of the country seeing scattered rain showers.
Central and northern areas will be sunny again on Saturday, although the temperature in Finnish Lapland will remain at zero degrees on both Friday and Saturday.
Sunday will be cloudy, with more rain on the horizon and temperatures around the 5 degree mark.
A low pressure front is then expected to move into Finland between Sunday night and Monday morning, bringing strong winds and rain showers. These may turn to sleet or even snow in central and northern parts.
According to Fintraffic, the roads will become busy again during Sunday afternoon and evening, as people make their way back. Monday between 12pm and 8pm is expected to be especially busy, the agency noted.
With roads busy and the weather unsettled, Lohtander warned people against changing to summer tyres just yet.
"There's a bit of uncertainty about the return traffic conditions. I wouldn't set off on summer tyres," he said.
