As Finland continues to recover from the damage caused by Storm Hannes on Saturday, an estimated 1,000 passengers are still stranded at Rovaniemi airport waiting for their return flights to depart.

A spokesperson for Finavia, the national airport operator, told Yle that the situation is slowly returning to normal, with about 30 flights expected to depart from and arrive at Rovaniemi during the day on Monday.

However, many people whose flights were cancelled on Saturday were sleeping on the floor of the airport on Monday morning.

"Some who came to the airport on Saturday were still at the airport on Monday, and some were waiting in their accommodations for information about a new flight," Finavia's communications manager, Elina Suominen, said.

About 20 flights had to be rescheduled from Saturday due to the storm.
