The Al-Rasheed Hotel in Iraq's capital city of Baghdad was targeted in a drone attack early on Tuesday morning, the Finnish foreign ministry has confirmed.
The hotel is located in the city's Green Zone, which houses several government and diplomatic buildings, including the Finnish Embassy.
Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs confirmed to Yle News by email that the hotel was the target of the strike and the building sustained structural damage.
"The embassy staff are safe, and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs is in contact with them," the ministry added.
Finland reopened its embassy in Baghdad in late 2018, having closed the mission in the early 1990s. Finland has had a non-resident ambassador to Iraq based in Helsinki from 2016.
As of September 2025, the head of mission at Finland’s embassy in Baghdad is Antti Putkonen.
